May is Iowa Wine Month!
A month-long celebration showcasing the unique grape varietals and wine in Iowa’s cold climate region.
Facts about the Iowa wine industry:
It takes approximately 150 - 200 hours of vineyard labor per acre per year to produce a crop of grapes in Iowa.
It takes approximately 500 grapes to produce a standard 750 ml bottle of Iowa wine.
Iowa has nearly 100 wineries located throughout the state.
“Iowa” labeled wines require a minimum of 75% of the grapes to be grown in Iowa.
One ton of grapes will typically yield 140 to 160 gallons of juice.
The Iowa Wine Growers Association and its membership of wineries, vineyards and other industry members encourage adult residents and tourists alike to help celebrate Iowa Wine Month by visiting wineries across the state and responsibly enjoying a glass of quality Iowa wine.
