Summer is flying by, and the biggest event of the season is just around the corner! Whether you are looking to cool off at the Iowa State Fair, give back by volunteering (with wine!), or find a beautiful local vineyard to spend your weekend, we have all the updates you need.
The Iowa Wine Experience at the State Fair
Mark your calendars! The Iowa Wine Experience is back at the Iowa State Fair from August 13–23. If you are looking for the perfect way to "wine down" and beat the heat, simply take a ride on the Sky Glide up the hill to the historic Grandfather's Barn.
Managed proudly by the Iowa Wine Growers Association, this hill top oasis is the ultimate spot to taste the very best craft beverages our state has to offer. This year, our menu is packed with incredible local flavors:
Wine Flights: Choose from a dry wine flight, a sweet wine flight, or our exclusive award-winners flight.
Famous Wine Slushies: The ultimate frozen fair staple to keep you cool.
Hard Cider: Crisp, bubbly, and perfectly chilled canned cider.
By the Glass: Enjoy a full pour of your favorite Iowa wine.

Beyond the delicious drinks, every glass poured at Grandfather's Barn tells a story of local Iowa winemakers, viticulturists, and tasting rooms. Our wine industry is composed of 100 wineries and 250 vineyards, supporting over 5,432 jobs and generating a massive $374 million economic impact for our state. The Iowa Wine Experience is entirely powered by the heart and soul of our community. Throughout the 11 days of the fair, we need to fill 240+ volunteer shifts, and we would love for you to join our crew!
Volunteering is a fantastic way to share your passion for Iowa wine, meet new friends, and enjoy the fair. You will help pour slushies, serve flights, and celebrate our local growers.
